MAINTAINING TIES

Ben Titley swam competitively for the City of Chester Swimming Club in the 1990’s.  Having obtained his degree at Loughborough University, he became a swimming coach and is now a GB Olympic Coach and Head Coach to the GB Women’s Team.

He recently brought six of his training squad to Chester for a short break and brought them to the City Baths to train for several hours each day.  The squad included Olympic, Commonwealth Games and World Championship swimmers, notably gold medallists Liam Tancock and Caitlin McClatchey.

They proved an inspiration to the many club swimmers who watched them train and also to some of the beginners who met them when they joined in with one of their lessons.

It is only because of the links that the City of Chester Swimming Club has with the wider swimming community, and the ties which past members maintain with both the club and the City Baths, that we can attract such swimmers to the baths and inspire the young swimmers in the way that they do.

Tom Walker has been swimming at the City Baths for 40 years, where he now trains 5 mornings a week.  He is an international Masters swimmer and in the course of his career has set 21 world masters records and has won 10 world championship titles and 13 European titles.

Tom’s wife, Brenda, has also won 4 world championship and 8 European championship Masters titles.  She also runs daytime adult swimming classes at the City Baths.
